Core Groups at 310

A core group is a single-sex group that gathers consistently to minister to each other through affection, application, and accountability on a deep interpersonal level.

Single-sex – We desire openness and honesty. Limiting the group to same-sex members helps foster an encouraging environment.

Group – In order to foster an environment of openness and honesty on a deep interpersonal level, we wish to keep the size of group down to five or less.

Gathers consistently– In order to foster an environment of openness and honesty on a deep interpersonal level, we request that each member commit to attending the core group weekly, in addition to coming to Friday nights and Sunday mornings. We also request that the core group member be a member of Grace Community Church.

Minister to each other– We obviously exist for the glory of God. But we enjoy serving one another and ministering to each other in various ways. By committing to a core group, you are in reality committing to serving others in the core group.

Affection– A community time of true Christian fellowship, caring for one another with the many considerations of life. The aim of the relationships formed in this group is to dive beneath the surface and share our hopes, desires, motivations, and fears.

Application– A deliberate time of soul work, challenging one another towards godliness. This time is to go beyond intellectual queries and apply biblical truths to heart problems.

Accountability– A transparent time of vulnerable communication, seeking one another for counsel and aid in areas of failure. The group is intended to be a place where weaknesses of the heart can be strengthened and encouragement can be found to fight the idols of our hearts

Deep interpersonal level – In many ways, the main goal of a core group is to build lifelong Christian friendships. These friendships go beyond being “acquaintances.”

Brandon - Hi!! I’m Brandon Jones. A a native of Iowa, and no we don’t grow potatos….that’s Idaho. Anyhow, I landed in California five years ago and received Christ a year and a half ago. To say that serving at Grace church has been a blessing would be inaccurate….serving at Grace has changed my life. I have been loved on so much by the Foundry and the 310, and it is an honor to serve in the 310 and head up a core group with some super godly dudes. Our core group loves pajama parties and story time……..just kidding. But we do care for and love each other in Christ. Our group is open, and we’re not afraid to encourage or rebuke each other in love. If you would like to learn more, but are apprehensive about contacting me, may your love for Christ compel you to do so anyway. We meet Thursday nights in the Valley. Here’s my email: bjljl57@hotmail.com

Giovanni - Meets Tuesday nights in West LA.giovannivilla@gmail.com

Jerry Howdy, Y’all! My name is Jerry Huang. As you can tell, I grew up in Texas. I came out to California for college and graduated from Caltech. I have been attending Grace Community Church since the fall of 1998. Before going back to graduate school at USC, I worked at a biotech company for six years. Our core groups currently meets Wednesday nights in West LA. We meet to pray for one another, encourage one another, bear each other’s burdens, sharpening one another in the Lord, and much more. Basically, we’re getting down to the nitty-gritty of each other’s life. Also, we like to drink Henry Weinhard’s Orange Creme Soda and play Rock Band.  My contact info is huangjer@gmail.com

Miranda Hi! My name is Miranda Cheang. I am a Bay Area native now teaching 4th grade at a public school in El Sereno and a Sunday School class for 4 year olds at Grace Community Church. I also have the the privilege of leading a wonderful group of girls that meet on Mondays at 7:30 p.m in West LA. The goal of our core group is to provide each other with accountability by speaking the truth in love. Moreover, we desire to spur one another on in our walks with Christ, using the Word of God and the power of prayer as we learn to glorify Him. We are a diverse mix of thinkers, feelers, introverts, and extroverts– who also dabble in activities involving hair straighteners, fuzzy socks, and the consumption of brie cheese. I graduated in 2002 with a degree in Business and am currently working as a Marketing Analyst for a company in Calabasas. Our core group meets on Tuesday evenings in West LA where we discuss what’s going on in our lives, what we’re learning, applying Truth, and pray. We love sushi and just hanging out! Rajeev My name is Rajeev Chitamoor and I have been going to Grace Community Church and the Foundry for about 4 years. Lord has been gracious to me by putting me at this church under the preaching ministry of some awesome preachers. I am originally from India, and I have lived in the U.S for the last 9 years of my life. I work full time as a Technology manager at a small IT company in Glendale. I like to play tennis, and if you want like to whack some tennis balls with some, don’t hesitate to give me a call. I am blessed to be part of a core group of awesome guys - Andrew, Ted and Tim (in alphabetical order :)). The Lord has been teaching me a great deal through this group. So, if you are new at the 310, do take a moment to introduce yourself to these guys. They rock!. PS: - If you hear the word “Chowder” being mentioned at the 310, it most probably refers to one of the guys who goes there. We meet Tuesday nights in West LA. Email: raseev@yahoo.com
